This is the result of a summer workshop held in Japan and Korea in 2000. The topics range from methodological/data related issues to regional urban/rural land-use changes at various settings. Although a general framework of the comparative study of land-use is yet to be established, the papers offer some important views, examples and insights into the development of such framework, especially in the context of Asia. The nineteen papers fall under the following headings: data and methods, urbanization, sustainability of rural land use, land reclamation and coastal change, and land-use change in peripheral areas. |
