Review: Here the author has a non-technical approach to Mans’ search for his origin and the origin of the Universe. He studies the explorations of scientists and philosophers throughout history as they try to fathom out these mysteries. The book follows the development of science and the individual contributions made by scientists from Archimedes to Galileo, Newton, Einstein and Bohr. The story begins with the Greeks in 650 BC with their supernatural explanations of the changes in the Sun and Moon, through Isaac Newton’s laws of motion and gravity (I have seen further than other men because I stood on the shoulders of giants) and the giants whom he followed, up to the present time and the quest for an ultimate synthesis of space, time, matter and forces.
