Two of the factors that directly influence availability and costs of nuclear power are the outage duration and resources used. Plant outages are shutdowns for maintenance and inspection. This booklet outlines some aspects and gives the main issues to be considered when optimising outage duration. It also gives guidance to outage managers, operating staff, and to the local industry. Planning aspects, as well as examples and strategies experienced in current plants in operation, enables a better understanding and implementation of the necessary methods. The report has seven sections: Introduction; Outage optimisation strategy; Implementation of outage optimisation strategy; Outage safety review; Economics; Extension of outages; and Forced outages. |
