This undergraduate textbook is for chemists who will be developing new processes for the twenty-first century. The subjects covered include waste minimization, feedstocks, green metrics and the design of safer, more efficient processes, as well as the role that catalysts and solvents can play. There are chapters on: production, problems and prevention of waste; measuring and controlling environmental performance; catalysis and green chemistry; organic solvents environmentally benign solutions; renewable resources; emerging technologies and alternative energy sources; designing greener processes; and industrial case studies. The last chapter looks at the future and an integrated approach to a greener chemical industry. |
