This IAEA Safety Standard has been established for Member States to adopt at their own discretion. It is, however, binding on the IAEA in relation to its own operations and on States in relation to operations assisted by the IAEA. It provides guidance on how the International Basic Safety Standards requirements may be fulfilled in relation to the protection of persons (patients, comforters, carers, and research volunteers) from exposure resulting from the use of ionising radiation in medical practice. It includes specific guidance for protection of patients, including equipment and operational factors. |
