This book describes the currently-available observational data on the distribution of galaxies and the application of spatial statistics in cosmology. It gives a detailed derivation of the basic statistical methods used to study the spatial distribution of galaxies and of the cosmological physics needed to formulate the statistical models. After reading the book readers should be able to understand new research articles and set up their own research projects. The most general and widely used statistical methods are described, as well as Bayesian techniques that have recently become popular in large-scale structure studies. |
