This is the report of the British Nutrition Taskforce, which was set up by the Council of British Nutrition Foundation to review the state of present knowledge of the causes, consequences, prevention and treatment of adverse reactions in food, particularly food intolerance, and to prepare a report, and make conclusions and recommendations to identify areas of further research. There are chapters on: the immune system; nutrition and the immune system; epidemiology of food intolerance and allergy; pre- and post- natal sensitisation to foods; common food allergies; other manifestations of food intolerances; enzyme defects and food intolerance; coeliac disease and other gluten-sensitive disorders; clinically validated and nonvalidated diagnostic tests; diagnosis and management of food intolerance by diet; food allergens; and the immunomodulation of food allergies. |
