Review: The twelve papers in this book are based on the Workshop held in Switzerland in May 1999. They range from human and agricultural genetic DNA research through carcinogens and chemical concentrations in the environment to space debris and atmospheric chemistry. There also some articles on statistical methods that are general and flexible enough to be applied to many practical situations. The topics covered include: statistical interaction with quantitative geneticists to enhance plant breeding programmes; variance components estimation with uncertainty; risk assessment of low-dose exposure to carcinogens; space debris risk assessment; robust approaches to the common principal components model, and sliced inverse regression; and the similarities between location depth and regression depth.
