Review: Applied hydro-ecology is the study of changes in aquatic ecosystems resulting from alterations to a river's flow regime, channel structure or water quality. This book includes 14 paper from the symposium on 'Riverine Ecological Response to Changes in Hydrological Regime, Sediment Transport and Nutrient Loading'. They cover a wide range of topics from data collection, through mathematical analysis, to the application of models. The focus is on physical aspects of hydro-ecology, and in particular the impacts of changes in flow regime, although sediment transport and water quality feature in some of the papers. The papers cover area as far apart as the USA, China, South Africa and Europe. The book concludes with a review of the state-of-the art for eco-hydrology at the end of the 20th century and a look at future challenges.
