These are the Proceedings of the 54th Scottish Universities Summer School in Physics held in August 2000. The gravitational N-body problem occurs in a variety of problems, from the motion of artificial and natural satellites in the solar system to the formation and evolution of large-scale structure in the universe. On intermediate scales, the dynamics of gravitational systems dominate the behaviour of stars in clusters and galaxies. The book gives the latest research in the applications of gravitational N-body dynamics in the following fields: solar system dynamics; stellar kinematics and dynamics; galactic dynamics; cosmology – large-scale structure dynamics; and general dynamics. |
