Review: This is a textbook for students on an undergraduate course in psychology, nursing or behavioural science. It outlines the main disorders that are commonly met in clinical work: childhood behavioural disorders, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and personality disorders are all covered. Each chapter begins by describing the clinical features of a disorder, then gives an illustrative example. Formulation and treatment plans are included. Epidemiological information on the prevalence, patterns of comorbidity and the outcome of each disorder is given. This is followed by theoretical explanations from biological and psychological perspectives. Reference is made to empirical research relevant to each theoretical perspective and to research on the effectiveness of various treatments.
