These are papers given at the conference in Turkey in October 2000. The aim of the conference was to assess the past achievements; to identify the key issues in developing the process to ensure food safety and quality, and to aid international trade in agricultural commodities; and to develop an agenda for future applications. The 20 papers looked at the subject from all angles including: harmonisation of food irradiation standards; the role of irradiation in insect and disease control; ensuring the microbiological safety of raw foods; the trends in technology; the economics of food radiation; consumer choice; marketing irradiated poultry; and the impact of irradiation on global production. |
