This book contains the memoirs of those who worked on chaos concepts before the acceptance of the new paradigm, between 1959 and 1974. It was in 1974 that the name 'chaos' was attached to dynamical systems theory. The eleven contributors each give their own personal experiences. Among them, Yoshisuke Ueda writes of strange attractors and the origins of chaos. The text of the talk given by Edward Lorentz in 1972 discusses The Butterfly Effect. Floris Takens tells of the Turbulence paper of D. Ruelle and F. Takens. Finally, Otto Rössler discusses chaos, hyperchaos and double-perspective. |
