These four alphabetically arranged encyclopaedic volumes (Abelia to Zygostates) aim to bring provide information on all that is known about gardening. Over 250 contributors have given their expertise to provide a practical and botanically sound reference. Accurate descriptions and names of important plants (arranged alphabetically by genus) take up a large proportion of the book. 3983 genera are described - giving their genus description, cultivation notes, species description, and the most important garden forms of them that are currently available. There are also general entries, covering plant science, garden history, horticultural science and gardening techniques and biographies of eminent botanists, horticulturists, plant collectors, garden designers and plantsmen and women. |
