This book is designed as an introduction for the beginning student, providing methods and skills used in problem-solving situations in some of the more important areas of chemistry. It begins with an introduction to problem solving, based on case studies. The rest of the book is divided into two sections: Stoichiometry and Equilibrium. The first section covers chemical formulae, balancing equations; the mole concept; mass/mass problems; gas volume problems; solution chemistry; enthalpy problems; electrochemistry and organic chemistry. The second section covers heterogeneous equilibria; acid/base equilibria; complex ions; simultaneous equilibria; oxidation-reduction processes; and more organic chemistry. |
