This volume of invited review papers on many different aspects of mesoscale atmospheric dispersion (MAD) covers the basic concepts, theories and models of MAD and the related mesoscale atmospheric systems affecting transport, diffusion, transformation, and removal of air pollutants. In the last few decades there has been increasing interest in evaluating air pollution problems over mesoscale and synoptic scale. In particular, the most serious problems of our atmospheric environment at mesoscale, such as urban air pollution and the behaviour of urban scale plumes downwind of large industrial cities, regional haze, photochemical smog, acidic precipitation, accidental toxic gas and radioactive releases, and stratospheric ozone depletion have received public attention. |
