There has recently been much research work on the synthesis and physical properties of block copolymers. This book includes a selection of papers from leading laboratories on some scientific and technological aspects of block copolymers as multiphase polymer materials, and emphasizes some of the characteristics that are of interest to materials scientists and engineers. It is known that multiphase polymer systems include polymer blends, block copolymers, and IPNs. However, only block copolymers can be defined as multiphase systems with a stable microstructure, even after many processing cycles. Such multiphase systems are characterized by specific properties and can generate a variety of applications, such as thermoplastic elastomers, compatibilizers, high elastic fibres, and surfactant agents. |
