This book has two aims. The first is to discuss the advantages and limitations in using diatomaceous earth (DE) filtration in applicable drinking water situations. The second is to provide guidelines for the professional in the development of designs of complete DE facilities and in subsequent start-up and plant operation to produce safe drinking water.
DE filtration is about the most basic method available for the removal of discrete particles suspended in drinking water as particulates are removed, primarily, simply by entrapment or straining. The book provides an introduction to the method and design options. It goes on to cover diatomaceous earth filter types, principal performance features, filter and ancillary systems, pilot testing, equipment and materials of construction - safety and design features; and design and operation. |
