This book is the result of long-term incident management research effort at Virginia Tech. Some of the sections are taken from the final report: Development of a wide-area incident management expert system. It provides the reader with a broad picture of the incident management process in the context of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). After the introduction, there are chapters covering: incident management systems; wide-area incident management support systems; incident detection; incident duration and delay prediction; incident response; traffic diversion for real-time traffic management during incidents; online traffic control; and future research. |
