This is the latest volume from the international study group on New Technologies and Work (NeTWork). The aim of the group is to
look at important problem areas posed by the introduction of new technologies in the work setting. This focus is justified by the public
and scientific concern of the last 15 years following major disasters in a wide range of technologies: nuclear power plants; ferries;
aircraft; chemical installations; spacecraft; oil tankers; offshore platforms; trains; hazardous goods transport; motorway pile-ups;
telecoms and complex computer systems.The advances in these technologies offer the opportunity for improvement, but also threaten
the tried and tested measures which have traditionally produced high safety levels. The papers presented here discuss the theoretical
advances in modelling safe management systems, look at management models and give analyses of safety management undergoing or
responding to change. |
