These are the papers presented at the conference held in Spain in April 1998. The book is divided into five sections. The first discusses new developments in steels for power generation boilers. The second section discusses steel development. Increasingly stringent environmental regulations and the need for reduced fuel costs have made it necessary to develop power generation systems with greater efficiency than those available in the past. One way of increasing the efficiency of pulverised coal-fired stations is to increase the steam temperature and pressure. This requires the development of alloys with a greater resistance to thermal fatigue. The second section deals with microstructures of steels. The third section, turbines, looks at steel for advances steam turbines and rotor forging. Section 4 examines further developments of materials in the USA and Japan. The last section discusses welding and the behaviour of steel weldments. |
