Review: This book is written by a team, a family physician, a psychologist, dietician, and a clinical social worker, who have collaborated for years on the treatment of eating disorders. The perspective of a patient with an eating disorder is also given. The authors offer insights into the values and benefits that mould attitudes and behaviours into the conditions of physical, physiological and psychological dysfunction that we recognise as eating disorders. There are chapters on anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa; eating disorders from the patient’s perspective; the personal experience of a 36-year old married woman who has suffered from an eating disorder for more than 18 years; the relationships between the patient and the therapist and dietician; and managing dietary and medical needs while finding a common ground.
