This translation from the German of Wulf Dorch's primer is a well-illustrated handbook suitable for every-day work in the laboratory, usable both as an introduction to the subject as well as a textbook. This edition is concerned not only with the detection methods that now form an essential and established part of diagnostic techniques, but also with the most recent research results such as the discovery of antibodies against Auerbach's plexus and against podocytes. Much attention is paid to diagnostic methods for use with auto-immune diseases. Modern technical procedures such as confocal laser-scanning-microscopy, and the newer fluorochrome reagents, now enable the simultaneous and sensitive detection of a range of substances in a unique way. |
